Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in weight loss, food, and fun in Chicago. Please have a nice stay!

What do you eat?

What do you eat?

I'm often asked about what I can and can't eat. For many WLS patients, certain foods can be problematic. Fortunately/unfortunately, I am not one of those people. Fortunately, I don't deal with dumping syndrome. Unfortunately, I have to work harder to make sure I don't fall into old habits of binge eating foods that have little to no nutritional value.

I can eat most anything without having any issues. The only foods I've found that really upset my stomach are noodles, rice, and bread. Yes, three of the most delicious of foods. Because of this, I try not to eat too many carbohydrates. I don't cut carbs completely, but I haven't eaten a sandwich with bread or a plate of thai food in months. πŸœ

So, what do I eat? Protein. A lot of protein. For the last two weeks, I've been pretty much living off of chicken, broccoli, and asparagus stir fry. I can't get enough asparagus! But after two weeks of the same meal, I'm switching it up. I've been craving Mexican food and pizza...well...I'm always craving pizza, so I went with it for the coming week.

I'll give you a little glimpse into what I eat. Neither of these recipes are the best for anyone on a low fat diet, so if that's the diet you're on, I don't recommend them. But for me, low carb trumps low fat. Also, my portion sizes are pretty small. I take in 1000-1200 calories/day depending on whether or not I work out. These meals and a vegetable side, and I've got easy meals for lunch and dinner for nearly a week!
