Staying positive

Life is hard. There have been several news stories and personal issues trying to bring me down this week.  

Racial tensions at my alma mater, University of Missouri (aka Mizzou). I love Mizzou more than most other places I've visited. I met several of my best friends there. I had an amazing four years learning, growing into an adult, and cultivating my interests there. The recent events on campus is earth-shattering.

News of attacks in Paris and Beirut are equally as shocking. I have never visited either city, but the loss of innocent life and the fact that these attacks have become so common place is disgusting. 

It's sometimes difficult to focus so much on myself in times like these because it makes me feel like I'm ignoring the rest of the world. However, taking care of my health is vital now.

In addition to everything going on in the world, I had a 5 day stall on the scale. All of this led to a feeling of on-coming depression. I really need to find coping mechanisms now that food, cigarettes, alcohol, and partying have less prominence in my life.

I find that social interaction and conversations with others help me in trying times. The world is always going to be stressful. I'm curious, how do you stay positive in the face of so much negativity?
